6 Important settings for a successful Facebook business group

1. Add a description to your Facebook business group

Adding a group description is a great way to tell the Facebook algorithm that your business group has the same goal as your business page.

You can easily do that in two simple steps:

1st step: Click on the admin home, then scroll down

1. Click on the admin home

2nd step: Click on Group settings, then click on Name and description under the Basic group info

2. Click on Group settings, then click on Name and description under the Basic group info

Enter your group description and click save.

2. Add a cover photo to your Facebook business group

In the group settings, you will find Cover Photo under the Name and description. The Facebook group cover photo size is 1640 × 856 pixels (1.91:1 aspect ratio).

It’s important to know that the Facebook page cover photo size is different from the Facebook group cover photo size. If you used the same cover photo on your business page, Facebook will automatically crop the photo. Some parts of the image will not appear. There are many apps and websites where you can create Facebook group cover photos with the ideal size. I’ll recommend two for you only which are:

  • Canva: It’s the simplest and best graphic design platform you can design a cover photo for your Facebook business group with. They have a premium and free plan but you can choose the free plan. After signing in, choose the free plan because it provides many good options. Click here to start editing with Canva.
  • PixelLab Text on pictures: It’s a text editor application. It requires basic editing skills.

3. Add group affiliation

Group affiliation shows the member of the group and the visitors that your page owns this group. Group affiliation proves the legitimacy of your group since everyone on Facebook can open a group with your business page name and scam your page fans and followers. You can find group affiliation in the Group setting right under the cover photo.

4. Add group tags

Tags are important in business groups and pages. It tells the Facebook algorithm more about your group. Add your business page as your tag. When your page follower searches about anything related to your business, Facebook will show related content from your Facebook business group. When everyone searches for your page, your group will be listed under it. This is a great way to increase the number of your Facebook business group members.

5. Choose Group type

Group type indicates your group need. There are 6 types of groups:

  1. General
  2. Buy and sell
  3. Gaming
  4. Social learning
  5. Jobs
  6. Parenting

Facebook knows the behavior of its users. If your group type is Buy and Sell and a user who always buys products searches for something related to your business. Facebook will show your group on top of other groups with different types to that user.

You can find Group types in the Group settings above Membership.

6. Set rules for your business group

Group Rules help you set the behavior you want for your business group. There are many scammers and spammers on Facebook. With group rules, you can warn any person who wants to join the group and tell them what kind of behaviors you allow in your business group. If you don’t like members promoting products in the group, you can set that by choosing No promotion and spam in the Group rules.

You can find Group rules when you click Admin home and scroll down above See all tools.

You can also set your own rules by clicking Get started after you click on group rules.

Congrats, you created a Facebook group on a business page and completed the important settings for your business group’s success. If you faced any issue or have any issue with your Facebook group you want to resolve, you ask in the comment section. I’ll be glad to help you.
